2022.01.17 14:03 Shagrrotten Comedy Movie Tournament: round 1
So we ended up with so many movies in the tournament that what were going to have is four movies going at it for these first two polls, and then three movies for the rest of the first round.
I randomly assigned seeds and so the matchups are pretty random, as people requested. As such, I’m not going to bother listing the seeds during this tournament, just listing the movies.
As agreed upon by the board, in the case of any ties, both movies will move on to the next round.
You vote however you want, whether that’s for the movie that makes you laugh more or the one that you think is the best overall movie.
There will be a new poll every day, and this tournament will probably take us into the first of March.
So let’s go!
Results from previous poll:
Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby (19) beat The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie (11), Hunt for the Wilderpeople (9), A Charlie Brown Christmas (4).
In Bruges (17) beat Raising Arizona (13), The Gold Rush (9), and A Day at the Races (7)
The Grand Budapest Hotel (19) beat It Happened One Night (10) and Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein (4)

This will certainly drive a news cycle in the NBA with questions abounding around previous NBA actions during the Daryl Morey/ale Ron James saga and Kanter will likely boost this as well. 2022.01.17 14:03 Avacha98 Question: Chemistry/math background -> chemical engineering, textbook etc recommendation
Alright, here's my background:
I'm an undergrad majoring chemistry, biology, and mathematics. Although I'm proud of what I've been able to accomplish in my undergrad, the triple major isn't quite as impressive as it looks -- I'm at a small liberal arts school (high school me didn't understand the significance of going to a large institution vs a small one), and since I feel like that drags me down a bit, I have basically been trying to accumulate as much course work as I can while my school is paying for it. I have several years of research experience (an REU, academic, currently interning w/ an R&D company).
Here's the problem:
Although my academic background is in the natural sciences, engineering research is way more interesting to me. So, I'm looking at going into chemical engineering, ideally with a research focus in some kind of microbiological/biomedical applications. The problem is that -- outside of having a decent mathematics foundation -- I have zero experience with academic engineering material.
Here's the question:
What texts would you recommend I look at to develop a foundation in chemE prior to starting grad school? Really, I just need enough to pass the entrance exams. Once I'm in, I feel confident I can pick up whatever I need to.

2022.01.17 14:03 Single_Blackberry Lens Recommendation
Hi! I am gearing up to shoot my first feature (gasp) and all I have is my nifty 50 and my shit Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II (which has a cool vignette to it after dropping it). I am looking for a wide/medium lens that is under 200. I like the looks of the Canon EF-M 15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM Lens, but I'm wondering if it will be enough. It's certainly cheap enough for me, but if it's too cheap the cast and crew will harass me. I really like the idea of 16mm, but am wondering if, there is a more professional standard I need to be making peace with at this point.
